Microsoft Office Tips—Put Tables in Your Word Documents

Have you ever had data that would look best in a chart but couldn’t figure out how to put it into a Word document?  Its easy!

Place your cursor where you’d like to insert the table.  On the menu bar go to Table, Insert, Table.

The Insert Table dialog box will appear.  Enter the number of rows and columns you’d like the table to have and hit OK.

Adjust the size of the table by clicking and dragging the borders.  Format the table by left clicking on the cell you wish to format and choose the appropriate option from the menu (font, alignment, borders etc.)

In 2004, 59 percent of computer attacks in government agencies, corporations, and educational institutions in the United States were attributed to mobile PC theft. In the same year, mobile PC theft resulted in $6.7 million of losses. These statistics underscore the importance of regularly (optimally weekly, but at least monthly) archiving your documents, folders, and settings so that you can retrieve the data if your mobile PC is stolen or the hard disk drive fails. You can back up your data to a CD or DVD, or to another computer if your computer is on a network. To back up data, you can use the Backup utility in Microsoft Windows XP.

Remember to keep your back-up somewhere other than next to your computer.  A friend or relative’s house, a safety deposit box, or anywhere.  We’ve had several computers brought to us to try to recover data after a fire.  We always ask where the backup was and they usually say, “on the desk next to the computer.”  We’ve even had a computer come in with the backup CD melted to the top of the machine.  Please keep your backups safe.

Don’t want to deal with backups yourself?  Ask us about our weekly backup and storage service for businesses.  We’ll setup your backup, pick it up weekly and store it at our facility in our fire safe.  Call us today! 257-3394
